What is Damascus, VA like?

Beautiful! Voted #4 Coolest Small Town of 2012 by Budget Travel Magazine, Damascus, VA is a perfect getaway for the entire family. It is a family-oriented town with a population of around 1,000. Because of the convergence of the trails into town, Damascus is home to the annual Trail Days festival. The Appalachian Trail, Virginia Creeper Trail, The Crooked Road Heritage Music Trail, The Iron Mountain Trail, and U.S. Bicycle Route 76 come together here making Damascus a popular hiking, biking, and fishing area. For further information visit our “Area Attractions” page on our website or visit the town website at damascus.org.

Is Damascus, VA a pretty place?

Absolutely! Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Damascus provides beautiful scenery for your destination location. Whether biking, hiking, or fishing on the scenic trails with the ambiance of the Laurel Creek rushing by, it is an ideal area to capture the beauty of the outdoors. It is also just a short drive to Abingdon to visit the Barter Theater or to Bristol to visit the Bristol Motor Speedway. Damascus is known as the “Friendliest Town on the Appalachian Trail,” and the Damascus Old Mill Inn is said to be the prettiest place in the friendliest town on the Appalachian Trail.

What type of weddings do you provide?

Simple. Rustic. Elegant. Our 100-year-old facility is popular for our picturesque outdoor waterfront ceremonies. We are one of the only full-service facilities that can offer true Waterfall Weddings. The rush of our private 200 foot wide waterfall on Laurel Creek creates a romantic setting. We also have an indoor Conference Center that is ideal for an intimate wedding. If the weather doesn’t accommodate you on your day, we can. We can provide outdoor tents or the use of our indoor facility if inclement weather conditions arise.

Do you provide catering?

We are a full-service restaurant facility capable of handling all your needs for your special day. We can provide the use of our Conference Center for your Rehearsal Dinner as well as Reception after your nuptials. We can provide anything from buffet-style dining to full service elegantly plated dinners including a champagne toast. Our waterwheel pub can provide an open bar for your guests.

I understand you have multi-media artwork on display containing wood and roof tin from the 100-year-old Mill. What is that like?

We are proud of both the art and architecture of the Old Mill. In our dining room and pub, we have original artwork created by Appalachian Trail thru-hiker Abbie Cashman. The paintings incorporate pieces of the Old Mill in her art. The Old Mill Pub is also unique with the semi-circle bar top mounted on a waterwheel. The edge of the bar is also an encapsulated trout stream containing 3D fish, turtles, and rocks. See our Art and Architecture of the Old Mill link on our website.

Can you provide overnight accommodations for my guests?

We have 12 elegant and cozy rooms to accommodate your guests, and several cottages adjacent to our property to handle up to 75 overnight guests. Unlike a chain hotel, every room is unique and different in both size and furnishings. The original wood beams are in every room, making each room distinctive. Some rooms have private decks overlooking the waterfall, others are suite-sized with sitting or visiting areas. We serve breakfast for our guests in our dining room. Call us and we can discuss your needs for accommodations.

How large of a wedding can I have at the Mill?

We can accommodate up to 175 guests for your special day.
